On 10FEB, Russia’s Ambassador to Canada issued a travel advisory to fellow Russians, stating that Canada is a “very dangerous country” that should be avoided. He added that Russians are also a target of racism on Canadian streets. The National Post reports this advisory doubles down on Russia’s warning that travellers to Canada should beware of street gangs and a “rather harsh climate.”
It’s not the first time Canada has been the subject of unflattering advisories. When Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou was arrested in YVR in 2019 on an international warrant, the Beijing government issued a travel advisory warning that Canada was now arbitrarily detaining foreign nationals.
