WestJet may be required to charter a new path for its subsidiary, Swoop, reports the Financial Post.
According to the Executive Summary of the ALPA labour contract obtained by the Financial Post, a tentative deal reached with pilots of both airlines would see the low-cost carrier’s flight operations integrated into those of the mainline carrier.
Currently, Swoop pilots are not certified to fly WestJet planes and vice versa. While the company and union haven’t specified the future of Swoop, airline industry experts question whether the carrier could continue as a separate entity following pilot integration which would significantly raise Swoop overhead.
As Open Jaw reported, WestJet pilots secured a new deal with the airline just before the MAY long weekend that includes a 24 per cent pay increase over four years.
