French Protests Block Paris Tourist Attractions, Rail Stations and Airports

Strikes are continuing across France, disrupting travel and tourism in the country, the Washington Post is reporting. As many as a million people are expected to protest an increase to the retirement age 28MAR, and demonstrators have already started blocking roads and train tracks at Gare de Lyon station in Paris, one of the city's most important hubs. The strike has caused numerous transportation delays, including blockading airports, roads, and railroads. The protests have turned violent numerous times, with clashes between protestors and police and major property damage across the country.

Tourist attractions are also impacted by the labour action, which has continued for weeks and does not appear to have an end in sight. The Eiffel Tower is closed, and protestors have blocked access to the Louvre, whose staff have also joined the protest. Additionally, a sanitation worker strike means the streets of Paris and several other cities are piled high with garbage bags.
