A tourism group in Cape Breton is facing an unexpected challenge due to a global shortage in rental cars. Terry Smith, CEO of Destination Cape Breton, was looking to rent some vehicles as part of a marketing campaign until he learned that none were available until AUG 2021. Gary Howard, a senior spokesperson for the Canadian Automobile Association Atlantic, cites this shortage is due to a rise of travel following the end of some pandemic restrictions. Smith says that traffic on the Destination Cape Breton website is up 124 per cent up over 2019 levels, but travel around the island is difficult without some form of transportation. The company is looking into alternative measures for future travel on Cape Breton.
