Hope and Optimism as Delta Threatens Travel Industry Recovery

Despite the rise of the Delta variant, those in the travel industry are cautiously optimistic for its return. For some regions, new restrictions as a result of high case counts won’t change much. Australia has been closed to Americans for more than a year, and is still not expected to open until 2022. For others, the Delta variant is already having an impact. Israel opened for small groups of tourists in MAY 2021, but borders are once again closing due to higher infection rates. Despite the setbacks, the travel industry is continuing to reopen and innovate for the next era of travel. Airlines are opening and reopening routes, and many destinations are rebounding. Many hotel and resort brands have expanded their portfolios throughout the pandemic, or have even completed some renovations. “A lot of our guests felt like they lost a year-and-a-half of their lives. They’re ready to go,” said Mark S. Conroy, managing director, the Americas for Silversea. Despite the threat of the delta variant, the good news surrounding the travel industry has provided many with hope and optimism.
