Hurricane Otis Weakens to Category 2 Storm After Plummeting Acapulco; Heavy Rains, Flash Floods to Batter Southern Mexico

Early on 25OCT, Hurricane Otis struck Acapulco as a devastating Category 5 storm, reminiscent of the 1997 hurricane that claimed many lives, reports CTV News.

It weakened to Category 2 as it moved over southern Mexico, causing power outages and obstructing mobility with downed trees and floods. With predictions of up to 15 inches of rain, there are concerns about landslides and further flooding.

The storm escalated from a tropical disturbance to a Category 5 in just 12 hours, catching residents by surprise. The aftermath saw power trucks heading to Acapulco, while videos captured the storm's fury. Its impact followed Hurricane Norma's strike on Mexico's Baja California Peninsula.
