In Industry First, Marriott To Include Resort Fees In Total Prices Following Lawsuit Settlement

Skift reports that by 15MAY, hotel and resort giant Marriott International will disclose resort fees in the total pricing it displays on its website and app.

It’s the first global hotel company to make such a change, and it follows both U.S. president Biden calling out the industry for hidden fees during his State of the Union address, as well as a 2021 lawsuit settlement with the state of Pennsylvania.

In settling the lawsuit, the company agreed to include the fees in its upfront total prices.

All other worldwide hotel groups, as well as OTA’s still charge extra fees for services or amenities, which are not revealed in the quoted room rate, the report notes, while adding that it’s not clear if other, non-resort fees like mandatory parking fees, would be rolled into Marriott’s pricing updates.
