The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts airfares will continue to rise from their current elevated levels over the next 10-15 years, reports the Guardian.
Increased demand for travel since the pandemic has already led to steep fare rises on many routes, and IATA said the cost of sustainable fuels is expected to drive up ticket prices even further. Willie Walsh, the director general of the global airlines body, said while some economists believe sustainable fuels could become cheaper than kerosene, he doesn’t see that happening anytime soon.
