Italy is considering imposing high new fines for damage to monuments or cultural sites to pay for cleanup and act as a deterrent, according to the AP. The government is currently considering a law that would create fines between €10,000 and €60,000.
The news comes following a spate of tourists behaving badly and damaging historic sites and works, as well as other incidents. The new law is considered likely to pass easily.
