Japan Lifts Final COVID Border Restrictions

Japan lifted most of its COVID-19 border controls on 29APR ahead of its Golden Week holiday season, including the requirement for incoming travellers to show proof of three vaccinations or a negative pre-departure test.

All incoming pax with symptoms of COVID-19 will still be required to take tests after arrival until 08MAY, and those who do test positive will be placed in designated quarantine facilities, reports The Star. After 09MAY, testing of symptomatic pax will be voluntary.

As of MAR 2023, mask wearing in Japan is optional but continues to be recommended in crowded trains and other public spaces.
