JetBlue CEO: We’re Selling Flights We Can’t Fly Due to Air Traffic Controller Shortage

JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes is exposing startling realities about how the ongoing air traffic controller shortage in the U.S. is affecting airlines and air travel, reports Airline Weekly.

Hayes criticized the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Transportation’s lack of urgency in addressing the staffing issue. Despite being aware that it will take several years to resolve the 3,000-person shortage, Hayes stated that not enough has been done to alleviate operational challenges. He emphasized the need for airlines to receive waivers to flight rules well in advance, allowing them to plan schedules more effectively.

Flight delays and cancellations have increased this summer despite a 10% flight reduction. Hayes called for proactive measures to address the situation, urging the Senate to approve the new FAA administrator nominee, Michael Whitaker, quickly.
