A federal judge denied a request on 07JUL from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to keep its COVID-19 safety regulations for Florida cruises in effect pending appeal of his ruling that would downgrade the CDC’s Conditional Sail Order from a legal mandate to mere recommendations for cruise lines on 18JUL. The CDC had appealed to keep the regulations in place, warning that the virus and its variants would spread more without them. In denying the CDC’s request to maintain the CSO pending appeal, the judge said, “CDC fails to demonstrate that denial of the stay will injure materially CDC or the United States, any third party, or the public,... This action is about the use and misuse of governmental power.”
