Legislation More Stringent, But Demand For Cruising ‘Strong,’ Industry Figures Say

At the Seatrade Europe event in Hamburg, leading industry figures emphasized that while demand for cruising remains strong, more stringent legislation poses challenges for the industry, Seatrade Cruise News reports.

Ponant CEO Hervé Gastinel highlighted the need for responsible and purposeful tourism, focusing on contributing to local communities. Marie-Caroline Laurent, director general of Cruise Lines International Association - Europe, discussed challenges regarding forthcoming legislation and called for accountability of fuel suppliers.

Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises, mentioned the possibility of ships running on methanol by 2025. The industry also discussed successful seasons in 2023 and 2024, with strong booking trends in Northern Europe and the German market.
