The town of Liverpool in England has been stripped of its UNESCO World Heritage status, after the UNESCO's World Heritage Committee decided that new developments in the city have negatively impacted its historical fabric. Since 2012, Liverpool had been one of 53 sites on UNESCO's World Heritage in Danger list, meaning that authorities could seek global solutions to preserve the heritage at stake. UNESCO said in a statement that the city had been "deleted" from the list "due to the irreversible loss of attributes conveying the outstanding universal value of the property." The report also stated that the development of Liverpool Waters, a planned regeneration of the city’s famous docks, were "detrimental to the site's authenticity and integrity." However, locals report that it has also been a crucial project for providing local jobs.
