Politicians are calling on executives and management at Nav Canada to pay back the CAD $7m in bonuses they received last year during the pandemic. During this time, the private non-profit, which operates Canada’s air control system, was receiving government aid, closing flight-control towers, and issuing layoffs. Opposition MPs told CBC they want the company to follow Air Canada’s lead, as some of the airline executives gave back their pandemic bonuses. Conservative MP Michael Kram said: "If the Air Canada executives can make the right steps in the right direction to pay back some of their bonuses, I don't see why Nav Canada can't pay back their bonuses as well." Nav Canada said it won't decide until the fall whether it will hand out bonuses for 2021. When asked repeatedly by CBC if company executives will pay back the bonuses from 2020, Nav Canada did not answer directly. Instead, company spokesperson Brian Boudreau defended the "management incentive program," saying it was "reduced significantly" last year by 20 per cent.
