The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has joined two other civil rights groups in issuing a travel advisory for Florida, citing concerns over discrimination and safety, CBC News reports. Tourism is one of the state's largest job sectors.
The travel advisories come in response to recent laws championed by Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida lawmakers, which critics argue disproportionately target minority communities and are "openly hostile toward African Americans, people of colour and LGBTQ+ individuals."
The NAACP joined the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and Equality Florida to encourage informed decision-making among travellers, while advocating for equal rights and protections for marginalized communities.
