Nepal has issued a record 463 climbing permits so far the 2023 Mount Everest climbing season to travellers from 65 countries. Most climbers try to ascend the summit in MAY. The climbers will be accompanied by over 1,500 local Sherpas.
Experts are worried about the effect of overcrowding on the mountain. Recently, the number of travellers has risen to the point that there are traffic jams on the ascent, and people have had to wait in line for hours at choke points. Nepali authorities say they plan to add more ropes for climbers to hold where possible.
