Norwegian May Need to Hire Over 17,500 Crew Members for 2022 Restart

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will need to hire over 17,500 crew members by FEB 2022 in order to fully staff its 13 ships re-entering service that year. The target number is around 19,000 for full crews on all ships, so the over 17 thousand new hires will join the crew already onboard NCL’s ships. Norwegian already requires 6,500 crew members for the summer of 2021 alone. In MAR 2021, employees were being surveyed to determine their intent to return to work, whether they have been vaccinated at home, or if they are interested in being vaccinated by NCL. Previously, Frank del Rio, CEO and President of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, said it takes about 90 days to get a vessel ready for cruising, with the staffing process being one of the challenges.
