Not Every Airline Will Survive in Canada’s Now-Crowded Market: Flair CEO

While announcing a new base at YYC on 02MAY, Stephen Jones, CEO of Flair Airlines, said not all Canadian airlines currently competing in the market are likely to survive in the long-term, reports The Star.

The past few years have seen a surge of new Canadian airlines, including Flair, Lynx, and Canada Jetlines, while Porter continues to expand aggressively. Jones says that Air Canada has the top end of the market, while Flair is “going for the bottom,” but the “harder questions are for the airlines in the middle.”

Jones suggested that WestJet could be challenged to find a niche in the market in the future. Jones also expects that the low-cost carrier model will eventually dominate Canada’s leisure travel market, similar to other parts of the world.
