Nova Scotia said it will not provide a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to provincial residents who receive mixed doses and plan to travel internationally. While the National Advisory Committee on Immunization approved mixing second doses on 01JUL, some countries and cruise lines do not count those with mixed doses as fully vaccinated. Some travellers have requested a third vaccine shot so they can have two matching ones in order to bypass that restriction. Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia's chief medical officer of health said, "There's actually no scientific basis for decisions other jurisdictions are making around this." He followed up saying that the federal government was involved in negotiations with other countries to try and resolve these restrictions, and that the priority should be to have equitable vaccine distribution to countries with a low supply. Strang said that as long as other parts of the world don't have access to the vaccines, Nova Scotia will remain at risk.
