Panama City Beach has Booming Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend saw a boom in local tourism, putting Panama City Beach businesses on track to possibly have their best year yet, according to one local business owner. "I think people were glad to get out and glad to not have to worry about anything... You can't go to Canada. You can't fly internationally. You can't go on a cruise ship, Disney is not full. It was the perfect storm for us to be busy." Local officials said they expected a large number of tourists due to travel trends. Councilman Michael Jarman, who dubbed Memorial Day as the kickoff for summer, said he believes the Beach will welcome large crowds of tourists for the rest of the year so long as the weather remains pleasant. The beach is also hoping to attract more visitors with two large events for this coming weekend.
