Peru Set to Increase Tourist Cap For Machu Picchu

To boost tourism, Peru will increase the daily visitor cap for Machu Picchu, its UNESCO World Heritage Site, reports Skift.

Starting 01JAN, the daily capacity will rise to 4,500, potentially increasing to 5,600 on specific dates. The government had initially imposed a cap at 4,060.

This decision follows challenges in Peru's tourism sector, including political protests in JAN 2023 that led to the temporary closure of Machu Picchu. With tourism struggling to recover, the country hopes increased visitor limits will contribute to a rebound, especially as air connectivity with the U.S. remains a concern.
