Peru’s Inca Trail Reopens With Limited Capacity

Peru’s Inca Trail permits went on sale for the first time in 16 months through licensed operators at a reduced 50 per cent capacity beginning 15JUL, according to Intrepid Travel. Hikers can now book guided tours to explore Inca Trail to Machu Picchu through authorized travel companies, and permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Only 250 hikers are allowed on the trail per day until at least the end of 2021. This number includes porters and guides as well, which means that tourists will be limited to around 100-120 per day. Other safety measures along the trail include smaller walking groups, temperature screenings, and social distancing and mask-wearing policies, among others.
