PhocusWire: Influencers Replacing Traditional Travel Advertising

The days of glossy brochures are gone. The travel industry is exploring a shift in strategies to effectively reach and engage with gen-Z travellers, reports PhocusWire (which, according to Open Jaw, should be taken with a grain of salt as in 2001 Phocus Wire predicted travel advisors would be extinct in the following five years).

When seeking inspiration, most travellers (52 per cent) default to their friends and family. Social media has become the next best source of travel inspiration, overtaking traditional channels including travel agents (29 per cent), travel media publications (26 per cent) and TV and film entertainment (25 per cent).

According to PhocusWire, as younger consumers become the primary buyers, marketers within the travel sector need to adjust their strategies to connect with this tech-savvy demographic on digital platforms.
