Popular Alaska Port Seeks Cruise Passenger Limit In 2024

Residents of Sitka, Alaska are pushing for a cruise passenger limit following a record influx of around 560,000 cruise visitors this past summer, reports CruiseRadio.net.

The concerned citizens’ proposal seeks to cap the annual number at 240,000, comparing the proposed limit to Bar Harbor, Maine's cap of 1,000 passengers per day, suggesting Sitka's yearly cap would actually allow more cruise visitors.

The ordinance drafted also introduces permit requirements for cruise operators. Municipal leaders voiced concerns over potential legal and economic implications. If approved, Sitka residents could vote on the proposal by DEC. Currently, there's no cruise passenger limit in Sitka.
