Portland is preparing for the fall tourism influx by launching the "Portshare Promise" to manage cruise ship congestion, reports WGME.
Inspired by Juneau, Alaska's strategy, this initiative involves measures such as placing crossing guards on busy streets. Partnerships with entities like Cruise Portland and Visit Portland aim to disperse the traffic, including introducing shuttles for cruise passengers to explore more widespread streets and businesses. The initiative comes as the peak fall cruise season, which sees over 150,000 passengers, contributes approximately USD $15 million to the local economy.
