Post-COVID, Daily Hotel Housekeeping Now Optional. Opt in to Save Jobs

Due to COVID-19, many hotel companies, such as Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott, are making daily housekeeping optional to reduce points of contact and transmission. However, this new practice may become permanent as a way for hotel companies to cut costs. In a JUN 2021 report from Unite Here, a union that represents hospitality workers, the group estimated the end of daily room cleaning could lead to the loss of up to 39 per cent of all hotel housekeeping jobs in the U.S., or close to 181,000 jobs, representing a loss of USD $4.8b in wages annually. In order to help save jobs from being lost, Boston Globe suggests that guests at hotels should make a point to request daily housekeeping during their hotel stays.
