Progress: FAA Referred Only 17 ‘Unruly’ Passenger Cases to the FBI in Q1 of 2023

The FAA referred 17 cases of unruly passengers to the FBI during the first three months of 2023, according to Flight Global. The charges include allegations of inappropriate touching of other passengers and staff, as well as attempting to open an aircraft door and deploying the emergency slide.

The number of incidents with unruly passengers rose sharply during the height of pandemic travel restrictions; 250 incidents have been referred to the FBI since late 2021. However, the rate of incidents has dropped sharply - by over 80 per cent - since a high in 2021.
