Royal Caribbean announced in a press release that vaccinations are mandatory for all destinations they depart from, except for Florida, where it’s simply strongly suggested. For cruises from Florida, “we are strongly recommending all guests eligible for vaccines are fully vaccinated when sailing from Florida ports,” said the cruise line’s spokesperson. “We expect approximately 90% of our guests will be vaccinated, based on regular surveys.” Unvaccinated passengers will have additional hoops to jump through. “Guests who choose not to be vaccinated or not willing to verify vaccination will be subject to testing, which will be at their expense, and additional health protocols,” said Royal Caribbean’s spokesperson. “Kids not eligible for vaccines — under 12 from August 1 — who sail will be required to be tested, with costs covered by Royal Caribbean, and subject to health protocols.” Nine Royal Caribbean ships are set to cruise from ports in the U.S. and the Caribbean this summer — about half of them will sail out of Florida and the rest from other ports. Travellers looking to sail without any vaccine uncertainty may consider other Royal Caribbean voyages from Seattle, the Bahamas, Texas, and more.

Two fully vaccinated ships (crew and passengers) still have passengers and crew who caught Covid on recent sailings. Being fully vaccinated will never stop someone from catching Covid. (Just like a flu shot- you will catch a new strain next season…).
I don’t know what the right answer is. if cruise lines want to get back to 100% , they need to factor in people that will catch Covid regardless.
We need to learn so much more about Covid and its new strains.
