Thailand Sets Mid-OCT to Reopen to Fully Vaccinated Travellers

The Thai Prime Minister announced 16JUN 2021 that the country plans to fully reopen to vaccinated foreign visitors by mid-OCT 2021 “without quarantine or other inconvenient restrictions.” The PM acknowledged the risk of this decision but said: “I think when we take into consideration the economic needs of the people, the time has come for us to take that calculated risk.” Tourism is a major contributor to Thailand’s economy, attracting 40 million foreign arrivals in 2019. Previously, the government targeted JAN 2022 for reopening. However, the country has had delays in securing vaccines and is in the midst of a surge in COVID-19 cases that began in APR 2021.
