'The Boat has Already Sunk': Tourism Operators on Border Say the Season is Already Lost

Tourism operators in Ontario's Thousand Islands region are asking the federal government to announce a plan for the return of non-essential travel as revenue drops. Some suggest that they could lose all of their vital seasonal revenue this summer without American tourists. The Thousand Islands region is home to one of the country’s busiest border crossings at the Thousand Islands Bridge, and many tourism businesses there rely on international travel. Konrad Linckh, owner of the 1000 Islands Tower overlooking the bridge, normally sees thousands of American tourists in the summer season. Now, he’s losing hope. "The boat has already sunk," he told Radio-Canada. "Realistically, everyone who makes vacation plans has already made them by now."
