Just as recovery was on the horizon for the travel industry, the Omicron variant has sparked a wave of new COVID-19 restrictions with many governments banning flights from countries in southern Africa. While the world is still in the stage of gathering more data on the variant, travel restrictions can quickly expand as cases and concerns grow. USA Today speculates that if the spread of Omicron expands rapidly in the U.S. there may be increased calls for a domestic vaccine mandate for air travellers.
