According to a recent government audit, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), lacks a plan to address critical air traffic control (ATC) staffing challenges, reports Forbes.
About 77 per cent of critical ATC facilities are staffed below the FAA's threshold.
The report revealed that the FAA has made limited efforts to ensure sufficient controller staffing at key ATC facilities, further risking disruptions to air traffic operations. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg acknowledged that it would take years for the FAA to hire and train the optimal number of air traffic controllers, and the pandemic-related training pauses have further delayed certification times.
