They asked ChatGPT to Plan a Vacation: Here’s What Happened

Everyone’s talking about the Artificial Intelligence (AI) ‘chatbot’ sensation, ChatGPT - amid fears it could replace human research and communication, including in the travel industry.

A CNBC reporter put ChatGPT to the test, asking it to plan a vacation. ChatGPT followed up, asking the reporter to provide a list of interests and parameters, and provided a list of recommended destinations, what made them special for a foodie (one of the reporter’s parameters) and a list of recommended places to stay. It got a couple of things wrong (for example, one of the recommended accommodations it found was actually in Canada, not Asia, as requested.)

The reporter also noted that the whizkid chatbot couldn’t show images, provide current information, like availability status, or help book. In addition, error codes occurred and previous chats disappeared. The reporter’s verdict? “Travel agents’ jobs are secure for the time being.”
