Thousands Sign Petition Against Airline Monopoly in Canada

Frustrated travellers are petitioning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to combat airline monopolies in Canada, reports the Daily Hive.

The petition, posted on Change.org, highlights the limited options and increasing costs faced by travellers due to the dominance of a few major Canadian airline companies. It urges Ottawa to deregulate the air industry like the European Union and Australia.

As Open Jaw reported, Canada's second-largest airline, WestJet, recently finalized its acquisition of budget airline Sunwing Airlines. Earlier in JUN, Open Jaw reported that by OCT, WestJet will also integrate its budget subsidiary, Swoop, into its mainline operations.
