U.S. DOT Probing Airlines’ ‘Unrealistic Flight Schedules’

The U.S. Department of Transportation is conducting investigations into certain airlines over allegations of “unrealistic flight schedules,” reports TravelMole. So far, only Southwest Airlines has been named as part of the investigation.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that action will be taken against airlines that knowingly schedule an excessive number of flights, considering the current staffing shortages and other challenges to the system.

Recent government labour statistics reveal that airlines are facing a shortage of approximately 32,000 pilots. Flight disruptions have notably surged since the post-pandemic restart, as Open Jaw has previously reported.
