The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has reported a surge in firearm interceptions at U.S. airport security checkpoints, putting the country on track for another record-breaking year, reports Forbes.
In the first half of 2023, the TSA stopped 3,251 firearms, with more than 92 per cent of them loaded. The average rate of 18 firearms stopped per day from JAN to JUN 2023 represents a 6 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Last year’s record of 6,542 firearm discoveries at airports was a 10 per cent increase over 2021’s previous record of 5,972 firearms and more than a 400 per cent jump compared to a decade ago.
