United Airlines Blames Last Week’s Meltdown On The FAA, Weather And… Canada

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby played the blame game while acknowledging the airline’s recent operational challenges, reports View from the Wing.

In a letter to employees, Kirby said that it was one of the “most operationally challenging weeks” he has experienced in his career. He cited bad weather, limited operating conditions at Newark (EWR) and air traffic control staffing issues in the U.S. - and Canada - as the reasons for the thousands of flight cancellations and delays.

He outlined five action steps to avoid similar meltdowns in the future, however only one of them involves actual change by United, with the rest laid at the feet of other parties to address.
