United Airlines Fires 600 Employees for Refusing to Get Vaccinated

United Airlines recently fired nearly 600 US-based employees for failing to comply with the carrier’s vaccination policy. In AUG 2021, the company became the first US airline to require COVID-19 vaccinations for all of its domestic employees, and would require proof of vaccination as of 27SEP. On 28SEP, the company said it would begin the process of releasing 593 employees who decided not to get vaccinated. “This was an incredibly difficult decision but keeping our team safe has always been our first priority,” CEO Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart told employees in a memo. Workers can still save their jobs if they choose to get vaccinated before formal termination meetings.

  • Given that the regard for constitutional protection of rights exists to a greater extent in the USA than here in Canada, I foresee a hefty dose of lawsuits against United Airlines for termination without cause.
