United Changes Boarding Process to Window Seats First

United Airlines is reintroducing its "window, middle, aisle" (WILMA) boarding method to cut boarding times by two minutes, reports Simple Flying.

The system, set to return on 26OCT, prioritizes boarding passengers by seat type rather than status. This reduces interruptions caused when passengers need to stand to let others into their seats.

While the first three boarding groups remain unchanged, Group 4 will be divided, and a sixth group will be added for basic economy passengers. Families booking on the same economy ticket will board together. This overhaul follows system updates allowing for more than five boarding groups, a constraint that led United to abandon this method in 2017.
