Vancouver’s Omega Travel Says Inflation Keeping Canadians Close to Home

Rising living costs and travel expenses keep British Columbian and Canadian tourists closer home, reports Vancouver is Awesome.

In the second quarter of 2023, domestic travel within Canada surpassed pre-COVID levels, with Canadians opting for local destinations amid escalating overseas flight prices.

Statistics Canada's 24NOV study reveals Canadians took 70.2 million domestic trips, a 4.7% increase from 2019. High overseas flight costs, ranging from CAD $1,700 to $2,500 per person, led many to prioritize domestic travel. Residents spent CAD $17.7 billion on domestic travel, up 29% from 2019. Economic factors, including inflation and interest rate hikes, steer Canadians toward more budget-conscious travel choices.
