Viking Cruises’ newest expedition ships, coming in late 2021 and in 2022, will have onboard COVID-19 testing labs, according to Viking founder and chairman Torstein Hagen. Passengers and crew are currently tested daily using a saliva PCR test. Cruise Critic was given a tour of the new Viking Venus, and found that the lab can run 1,500 samples a day with results arriving within four hours. Viking notes that daily testing provides the line the confidence in its world cruise, scheduled for 24DEC 2021. Despite the high cost of testing and having a lab onboard, Viking recognizes that it is an important factor in creating a safe atmosphere.
