WestJet Approved To Operate Iceland Service

WestJet has secured permission from the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) to launch scheduled flights to Iceland, reports Aviation Week.

Although specific destinations remain undisclosed, the airline is expected to connect Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Reykjavik's Keflavik Airport (KEF).

This move aligns with WestJet's recent strategy of centralizing its long-haul international flights at its YYC hub, introducing routes to cities such as Barcelona, Edinburgh, and Tokyo. Currently, the Canada-Iceland corridor is served by Icelandic airlines Icelandair and Play. The approval follows the CTA's recent authorization for Lynx Air to serve multiple international destinations, including Iceland.
