White House Plan to End “Unfair” Airline and Resort Fees Is “Dead on Arrival”

U.S. President Joe Biden is attempting to crack down on “surprise fees” the administration says is unfair, including online airline ticket fees which raise the cost compared to the headline price of the ticket; family airline seating fees; and resort destination fees, which Biden wants to be included in the advertised cost of the room.

He demanded that U.S. agencies act, however, Skift reports that government agencies like the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau “is prepared to limit credit card fees to $8” but are taking no further action on other fees, saying that they will simply “prioritize them.” According to Skift, Biden is now calling on Congress to act instead - which suggests that no further action will be taken on the fees, although it might still earn the president political points among consumers.
