Why Porter Airlines CEO Michael Deluce Sees Clear Skies Ahead

Amid a global pilot shortage, Porter Airlines is undergoing a significant expansion, much to the amazement of the industry, reports the Globe and Mail.

Porter has placed an order for 50 Embraer jets, with options to possess 100 of the aircraft by 2027. While competitors Flair, Lynx, and Canada Jetlines also plan expansions, Deluce contends there are insufficient pilots to meet all demands.

It helps that Porter has powered up how much it pays first officers and captains. Porter is the only airline in North America that doesn't have a union representing its pilots, which Deluce says has given it the flexibility to revise its salary scales twice this year.

The company aims to enhance the flying experience by focusing on economy passengers, providing comfort and amenities. Porter's goal is to challenge larger airlines in Canada, growing its market share and eventually considering an IPO.
