Wildfire Evacuation Orders Issued in Corfu

Operators scramble to repatriate holidaymakers in Greece following evacuation orders issued as wildfires spread across the country during the Mediterranean heatwave, reports Travel Weekly.

The country is facing a severe wildfire crisis as the entire Mediterranean region grapples with extreme heatwave conditions. The soaring temperatures have triggered numerous wildfires in different parts of the country, posing a significant threat to locals and travellers alike. Authorities and international support teams to bring the fires under control to safeguard both residents and tourists in the affected regions.

The fires have caused significant damage so far, with several hotels already destroyed in the forested area of Kiotari on the east coast of Rhodes. With over 250 firefighters and 18 aircraft actively battling the blazes, the situation is ongoing.
