Holland America Line Celebrates 148th Anniversary

Holland America Line

Holland America Line (HAL) celebrated its 148th anniversary on 18APR, 2021. Reflecting on the past year, HAL noted that the company has learned the importance of celebrating the smallest of milestones and as one of the industries longest-serving cruise lines, the company has lots to celebrate. Today, HAL is proud to operate 10 ships that visit more than 500 ports across all seven continents.

Holland America Line touched upon how over the past year the company has continuously persevered and found new ways to engage with consumers despite the challenges the pandemic posed.

“We can’t wait to get back to cruising and welcome guests on board again. During this year long pause in cruise operations, we’ve had to rethink how we celebrate our brand and keep on ‘sailing.’ That led us to connect with our fans and media in new ways,” said Erik Elvejord, Director of Public Relations, Holland America Line.

“We launched virtual voyages on social media to Alaska and Norway, embarked on a virtual Alaska Land+Sea Journey, held two interactive port brackets (think March Madness) and watched Moorea and Venice emerge as victors, hosted live weekly trivia sessions on Facebook, staged wine and whiskey tastings, held concerts with our renowned musicians, inaugurated National Food Faces Day, and much more,”

“Though we still must wait to cruise the world’s oceans again, we’ve been busier than ever keeping the Holland America cruise experience alive,” concluded Elvejord.

What’s In Store For HAL – Debut of Rotterdam

Holland America Line has introduced a new Pinnacle Class ship, Rotterdam, to its fleet. Rotterdam will debut in JUL 2021, where she will be the third Pinnacle Class ship for the cruise line joining sisters Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam.

The name of the ship, Rotterdam, holds special meaning for Holland America Line. HAL’s first ship was named Rotterdam, which sailed its maiden voyage from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to New York City on 15OCT, 1872. This ship will be the seventh to bear the name for Holland America Line.
