Holland America Line’s episode on Bravo’s “Top Chef” aired on 12JUN.
"We’re extremely proud of our involvement with this culinary award-winning series. It was an honor to be showcased in the show’s 21st season and represent the first time the series filmed the finale in the Caribbean on a cruise ship."
The penultimate episode of the season was a true collaboration between Holland America Line and Bravo’s “Top Chef.” While aboard Eurodam, the final four cheftestants — Chefs Dan Jacobs, Danny Garcia, Laura Ozyilmaz, and Savannah Miller — competed in the last elimination challenge ahead of the final cook and had a surprise visitor.
The episode kicked off in Curaçao by welcoming back the final four cheftestants for their final Quickfire Challenge. Contestants were asked to prepare a dish featuring lionfish and gouda cheese, while also being encouraged to pull from the national dish of Curaçao: the Dutch-inspired “Keshi Yena,” which is a spiced meat stuffed in a cheese rind and traditionally baked or steamed. Chef Dan Jacobs won the challenge.
Cheftestants Enjoyed Half Moon Cay and a Fresh Fish Meal from Chef Morimoto
Before jumping into the final elimination challenge, Holland America offered a little “R&R” on Half Moon Cay, the cruise line’s private island in the Caribbean. Cheftestants enjoyed the natural 700-acre lagoon, had Lobster Shack delivered to their private cabana, and encountered silky-smooth stingrays in the crystalline waters.
Later in the day, celebrity Chef Masaharu Morimoto, who serves as Holland America Line’s Fresh Fish Ambassador, came on board, and prepared his signature dishes for the cheftestants: Fresh Halibut XO, Fresh Tuna Pizza, Sushi Plate and a Chocolate Sphere. All of these dishes are served on Holland America Line cruises and come from Holland America Line’s Global Fresh Fish Program.
Final Elimination Challenge
For the final elimination challenge, cheftestants prepared an eight-course fish-tasting menu for the judges and table of experts. Chefs selected local fish from Holland America’s Global Fresh Fish program, which is a pioneering initiative that engages a global network of 60 ports to source and serve 80 types of fresh fish on board, going from port to plate in less than 48 hours. Chef Danny Garcia won the challenge and received a $10,000 cash prize as well as a 10-day cruise anywhere Holland America sails to.
