Six Reasons Young Canadians Choose MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises is witnessing an unprecedented surge in bookings from young Canadians, captivated by the line's innovative ships, luxurious experiences, and future-focused environmental practices. This trend highlights the growing popularity of cruising among the younger demographic, reshaping the future of travel.

Following a remarkable 75% rebound in 2023, with many Canadians returning to cruising post-pandemic, the market shows robust recovery signs. In 2019, research showed that 1.2 million Canadians embarked on cruises, and this figure is expected to be reached again soon

Ian Patterson, Country Manager of MSC Cruises Canada, believes that by the end of 2024, the industry will already be at the same level as in 2019, underscoring the enduring appeal of cruising among Canadians.

“We have seen a shift in booking trends, with more Canadians opting for suites or MSC Yacht Club cabins," Patterson noted. "These options offer greater comfort and personalization, elevating the overall cruise experience. This is particularly appealing to a younger audience, who value bespoke and luxurious experiences. As the only cruise line with an office dedicated to the Canadian market, we conduct extensive research, enabling us to tailor our offerings precisely to our market. We have seen the robust growth we anticipated for 2024 and beyond as Canadians of all ages continue to embrace cruising."

According to the Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) 2024 State of the Cruise Industry report, despite the industry's average customer age being 46, there's a notable surge of interest among younger demographics, affirming Patterson's forecast that Canadian cruisers in 2025 will far outpace those in 2019. With cruise bookings skyrocketing and a surge in younger travellers, MSC Cruises is poised to dominate the Canadian market with innovative ships, a strong focus on its impact on the environment, and a commitment to unforgettable travel experiences.

Patterson highlights six compelling reasons why MSC Cruises Canada is attracting younger Canadians and first-time cruisers in 2024:

1. Unforgettable Travel Experiences

The CLIA report [AT1] found almost 40% of cruisers are now under 40. Among them, 88% of Millennials and 86% of Gen-X travellers say they plan to cruise again. MSC Cruises caters to their adventurous spirits with new ships and itineraries designed for younger tastes.

2. Innovative New Ships

MSC Cruises continues to push boundaries with each vessel, blending classic elegance with cutting-edge innovations. The new MSC World America, set to launch in 2025, exemplifies this commitment. Designed for the worldly curious traveller, it features attractions like the exclusive Cliffhanger, the only over-water swing ride at sea, and is powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), a lower-emission marine fuel. Young travellers can enjoy over 30 bars, lounges, and dining venues with globally inspired menus and vibrant entertainment options.

3. Focus on the future of cruising

MSC Cruises has launched the most energy-efficient ships in the industry. Last year, MSC Euribia proved that alternative fuels make net-zero cruising possible. These steps align with the growing demand among Canadian travellers, especially younger generations, to find more responsible travel options in the future. MSC World America further symbolizes this commitment with latest technology to minimize environmental impact.

4. Comprehensive Travel Solutions

The Stay & Cruise program, available in popular destinations like Venice, Rome, Athens, Miami, and New York, allows guests to enjoy two or three nights in a port city to explore before boarding or disembarking, complete with an included shore excursion for added convenience and relaxation. This program caters to young travellers’ desire for immersive travel experiences.

5. Catering to Solo and Family Travellers

MSC Cruises offers attractive rates for young travellers, special rates for solo voyagers and a "Kids Sail Free" offer for families, making cruises affordable and enjoyable for everyone.

6. Personalized and Accessible Support

With a fully bilingual dedicated Canadian office, MSC Cruises delivers tailored support nationwide, ensuring every traveller receives personalized assistance and industry expertise.

As MSC World America prepares for its maiden voyage and as its fleet continues to expand, MSC Cruises has positioned itself for the next surge in cruise bookings in Canada. "It's the perfect time to discover why Canadians are choosing MSC Cruises for their voyages," Patterson affirmed. "We're excited to welcome aboard new cruisers and deliver exceptional experiences."
