The latest airport rankings are a solid showing for the U.S., but Canada’s report card is pretty dark.
AirHelp, a German company that helps pax with airline complaints, recently released its global airport rankings. Nearly 240 airports in 69 countries around the world were rated for on-time performance, customer opinion and food & shops. On-time performance accounted for 60% of the score, which helps explain the high marks for smaller, less congested airports.
Doha Hamad (Qatar) came out on top with an 8.52 score out of 10. Cape Town was second in the world with an 8.50 rating, while Nagoya Chibu in Japan had an 8.49 mark, good for the bronze medal.
Toronto’s YTZ/Billy Bishop Airport was the top Canadian finisher with a mark of 7.57, just 124th in the world. YTZ was given a 7.2 rating for on-time performance, 8.2 for customer opinion and 7.9 for food & shops.
Elsewhere in Canada, YYC came in 131st with a score of 7.54, while YVR was down at 177th after earning a mark of 7.30. Other Canadian finishers were YOW (181st, 7.28), YEG (195th, 7.23), YUL (215th, 7.04) and YYZ (227th, 6.95).
Salt Lake City was the flagbearer for U.S. airports, finishing eighth with a tally of 8.28. IAD came 11th with a mark of 8.22, while DTW was 15th and ATL 16th, both with totals of 8.20. MSP came in 17th with a score of 8.18, while Nashville/BNA was 18th with a mark of 8.17.
Other notable scores included CUN (70th, 7.80), LAX (77th, 7.77), LGA (80th, 7.76) and LHR (200th, 7.18). The lowest ranking (239th) went to Tunis, with a mark of 5.35.
